From this Thursday, June 1 and until June 15, nearly 410 actions will be carried out throughout Occitania as part of the national sexual health weeks.

The regional health agency (ARS) officially launched the sexual health weeks on Thursday. An operation that is part of a national movement, in partnership with associations, local authorities and health professionals. Nearly 410 actions are to be listed throughout the Occitan territory.

This year, four main themes were identified: unplanned pregnancies, infection prevention, violence and consent as well as sexual dysfunction and contraception. The aim of the various actions carried out is to educate for a fulfilling sexuality with various screening, prevention and information campaigns.

Regarding sexually intransmissible infections (STIs), ARS Occitanie points to relative stability regarding the number of positive HIV serologies in the region between 2020 and 2021 (+2%) after observing a drop over the previous year.

“We also note an increase in chlamydia trachomatis infections because we are screening more”, indicates Professor Alain Makinson, infectious disease specialist at the Montpellier University Hospital, specifying that this concerns young women in particular.

Chemsex, a sexual practice highlighted in recent months by the Pierre Palmade affair, is also part of the concerns of the regional agency.

“Chemsex has been present for ten years in Occitania, concedes Thibault Tarral, territorial facilitator of the Coordinating Committee for the fight against sexually transmitted infections and the human immunodeficiency virus (COREVIH). We have a lot of feedback from different actors on the ground.

On this subject, a major symposium will be held in Montpellier (Hérault), on November 17-18.
