Knife attack at the Reims University Hospital: “One of the most intense dramas” for the country, according to Olivier Véran

“It is one of the most intense tragedies that can affect our nation”, reacts government spokesperson Olivier Véran, after the death of the nurse attacked on Monday with a knife at the Reims University Hospital. “We are talking about someone who devotes his life to protecting, to saving that of others and who dies violently,” the minister said on France Inter.

The 37-year-old nurse, victim of a man suffering from psychiatric disorders, died on the night of Monday to Tuesday, the day after an attack which aroused great emotion. “I don’t know if we can associate the a priori act of an unbalanced person with the rise in general violence faced by all the depositaries of a form of state authority”, underlined Olivier Véran, while by inviting us to “question ourselves on a form of continuum between the violence of social networks, the verbal violence to which the political class sometimes indulges and these everyday acts of violence which can affect everyone”.

Expressing his “emotion” after this “terrifying murder”, the boss of LR Éric Ciotti for his part asked on RMC-BFMTV “a major psychiatry plan” facing a sector according to him “completely neglected in our society” and which suffered of a “cruel collapse of means, affected beds”.
