How to make a donation? The most practical is to book a slot on dondesang.efs.sante.fr but one can also present oneself spontaneously; the EFS will verify your identity and give you a pre-donation questionnaire, before a medical interview. The sample (between 420 and 480 ml) lasts between 8 and 10 minutes. A snack will then be offered. It is necessary to have a balanced lunch before coming and to be well hydrated before, during and after the donation.
Each year, 1 million patients are treated by donating blood for which there is no substitute product.
During a donation, all the components are collected (red blood cells, plasma, platelets) but the patient only receives what he needs. Plasma is used to treat genetic diseases, platelets for certain cancers and red blood cells are used during haemorrhages.
