The new premises of the CSAPA (Centre for care, support and prevention in addictology) were inaugurated this Wednesday, May 17 at 8, rue Michelet in Auch.

“More spacious, brighter and better suited premises for the care of patients”, this is what the director of the Gers hospital center, Thierry Laplanche, raises. “We cannot hide our joy at seeing this relocation project come to fruition, the need for which had already been recognized for many years,” said the director. The Gers Hospital Center created its first addictology structure in 2008 in a residential house located rue Rouget de Lisle. Very quickly, the use of this building proved to be “unsuitable” with, in the words of its director, “premises that were too small, a lack of rooms for group activities and meetings, an establishment on three levels and no accessibility for people with reduced mobility”. A very substantial list of “defects” which prompted the teams to look for new premises.

This project to move the CSAPA establishment (Centre for care, support and prevention in addictology) “has strong ambitions for the development of its activities and plans to significantly strengthen its workforce”, adds Thierry Laplanche. It is for these reasons that the professionals had to equip themselves with larger premises in order to better accommodate the patients and set up a reinforced team there.

276 patients treated in 2022

CSAPA Arthur Rimbaud has carried out more than 800 medical consultations, performed more than 3,000 procedures and treated nearly 300 patients. The center carries out several missions: reception, information, risk assessment and “support for people with risky consumption, harmful use or with a dependency on psychoactive substances and for those around them”. For years, health professionals have been following patients with addictions centered on substances such as narcotics, alcohol or tobacco.

But, recently, new addictions have appeared. This is the case for new substances such as opioid drugs or synthetic drugs. A field of intervention which widens with “behavioral addictions without substances” which represent those to games, screens, sex, food or work. The director recognizes that the needs within the population are still difficult to assess but “that they are undoubtedly substantial”. He takes the example of the emerging treatment of patients addicted to gambling or food.

Thierry Laplanche would like to thank in particular the Regional Health Agency (ARS) which granted three envelopes for a total amount of 220,000 euros for the works and 26,000 euros for the equipment and furniture. “The financial situation of our establishment would not have allowed the realization of this project without this support”, raises the director of the CH. The total cost of the project amounting to 283,732 euros, the ARS therefore financed most of the operation.

A minibus in the department to expand support

With a concentration of the care and support offer in the city of Auch, Thierry Laplanche and his teams want to set up a minibus. The objective: to be able to reinforce a logic of “going towards” in order to offer consultations to all Gersois. “When you suffer from an addiction, to alcohol for example, and you live far from Auch, it can be complicated to take the process of coming to the CSAPA”, explains the director of the CH . A project that should materialize by the end of 2023.
