Coffee-memory, advice and information on the disease, trip to the Baïse, training for caregivers: the France Alzheimer association organizes several actions.
The France Alzheimer association recently organized a coffee-memory on the theme “Dealing with strange behavior”. This memory café was held in a friendly place in the center of Fleurance and brought together many caregivers and people with Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders. The memory café aims to create a space for sharing and discussion where caregivers and people affected by Alzheimer’s disease can meet, discuss and find mutual support.
These meetings also offer the opportunity to obtain relevant information and practical advice on various aspects of the disease. This theme aroused the interest of caregivers because Alzheimer’s disease goes hand in hand with strange, unusual, sometimes confusing behaviors and represents a challenge for caregivers. It was an opportunity for them to look back on these behaviors they may have encountered and explore strategies to deal with them constructively. The next coffee-memory will take place on Thursday June 8 on the theme “Finding a center of interest in the face of illness”, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., at Chantpie de Fleurance.
Other proposed actions
The association also presents its other actions: a convivial outing on the Baïse for lunch with the Condom boat-restaurant, the D’Artagnan, Monday June 5 and training for carers. This aims to support carers who accompany a sick person on a daily basis by addressing the illness itself, communication, support, possible help, the role of carer and entry into an establishment. The training is free, lasts 14 hours and is spread over 5 afternoons, Wednesday May 31, June 7, 14, 21 and 28. Registration with Christiane Chicard, France Alzheimer volunteer, at 06.45.97.77.26, or Virginie Loir, psychologist of the respite platform, at 05.62.64.90.33.
