Since the beginning of May, eight people have been trained to help people with Alzheimer’s disease, at the Lac Hervé-Sabatier residence, with the aim of better understanding in order to better help.
Why training? France Alzheimer has long campaigned to publicize the essential role of family caregivers. These, despite all the efforts made, can be confronted with difficult situations, with the risk of exhaustion and isolation.
Who is she talking to ? This training is intended for people who accompany a parent or loved one suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, a related disease or presenting serious cognitive disorders.
The participants are brought together in small groups to promote the sharing of experiences and discussions. This training, free of charge, was led by Xiména Faya, psychologist, and Colette Bernard, volunteer of the association and ex-caregiver, trained together for this action.
What is the content of the training? The entire cycle lasted fifteen hours, divided into several modules spaced out over several weeks. The objectives were as follows: to better understand the mechanisms of the disease, to better adapt one’s attitudes and behaviors towards the sick person, to communicate better to maintain a relationship and exchanges, to better assess one’s possibilities and know how to recognize one’s limits, to better know assistance available locally.
You should know that to date, the retirement home of Lafrancaise welcomes 48 people. 20 residents have Alzheimer’s disease, 16 of whom are in a protected unit.
A next meeting will take place on July 8 to take stock after the course that the people whose names follow have just followed, whom we can congratulate and thank for their volunteering, as well as the trainers, Mrs. Faya and Bernard.
Have taken this training: Valérie Marty, Patricia Pecheux, Maryline Sarrette, Jean-Pierre Coyne, Serge Coyne, Anne-Marie Sabatié, Gisèle Vergnes, Brigitte Falliex-Petit, Guy Faillex.
