The Saturday morning market is a great meeting place, a perfect opportunity to raise awareness about the effects of alcohol and narcotics. Volunteers from the Maif branch in Tarn-et-Garonne installed a carpet on which were positioned various studs and obstacles that mark out the course to be completed. With the help of five pairs of simulation glasses (different simulated alcohol levels, different types of narcotics) the users were able to realize how perceptions of the environment are distorted and movements disturbed. An opportunity for stakeholders to recall each time the negative effects but also the standards in force and the risks incurred under the law.
At peak time between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m., they were very much in demand “We met a lot of very interested curious people, some shy people who we had to convince to try the route, some European tourists from neighboring countries , a few young people who preferred to move quickly thinking that it was a question of checks… lists José Lorenzati, member of this prevention unit. We also had some gendarmes in civilian clothes who tested our knowledge, an alcoholic individual who did not Didn’t need simulation glasses, intrigued municipal police, a few rare omniscient people with preconceived ideas… in short, a rich morning.”
This first on the market was clearly a success for this team more accustomed to interventions in schools. The diversity of the audiences affected will certainly motivate them to renew this intervention in the second half of the year.
