Consuming 5 fruits and vegetables a day is not always easy. To achieve this, consider varying the pleasures. And among them, frozen products are too often underestimated. Wrongly. Here’s why.

Of course, beans, fresh broccoli or freshly picked strawberries and raspberries remain a must in fruit and vegetables. But it is not always possible to have some on the plate. Either because it’s not the season, or because it’s out of budget to buy them regularly. This is where frozen fruits and vegetables can add good nutritional quality to your diet.

Indeed, frozen products contain a high level of nutrients (vitamins, minerals, etc.) because they are picked fresh and frozen without delay. Moreover, “Freezing (which) is a process for cooling much more quickly and to a colder temperature than simple freezing (…) preserves the nutritional value and quality of food better than freezing”, notes Stéphanie Rheinart, dietitian-nutritionist in Tours on her website. “Before being frozen, the vegetables are blanched, i.e. they are immersed in boiling water for a few minutes. This heat treatment destroys a small part of the B and C vitamins and minerals . Fruit does not need to be blanched before freezing.” They therefore deteriorate less rapidly than fresh counterparts.

And so these products also save money. They are often less expensive than fresh fruits and vegetables and have a longer shelf life. Besides money, they also save time when preparing dishes. For what ? Because they already exist cut, sliced or chopped. All that’s left to do is cook! Easy to integrate them into your daily life.

To note : prefer frozen products alone and without adding sugar, salt or fat in particular.
