Tuesday, May 30 was held for the first time in Cauterets, a day of awareness and prevention of the respiratory system: May Lungs.

On the initiative of Amandine Pierrot, nurse at the Cauterets thermal baths, and Olga Bilger, deputy director, a day of discussions was held to raise awareness of the role of the lungs and breathing, to develop knowledge of patient on the respiratory system, and to encourage regular physical activity. In collaboration with the Toulouse association Mai Poumons, the public was able to attend throughout the day conferences given by specialists, but also 8 workshops on different themes.

For Dominique Courdesses, president and general manager of the Thermes, “this day also aims to promote our thermal cures in the respiratory tract, whether here in Cauterets or elsewhere in the department. Since on all of our thermal establishments in 65 almost all of us offer an orientation in the respiratory tract. On this day, we tried to respond in part to the commitments of the Regional Health Project Occitanie 2022. First of all by prevention, identification, screening and early support (especially with regard to tobacco). Then by trying to make everyone more involved in their health. We refer to the involvement and accountability of the user in the health system”

This first initiative was a great success and greatly appreciated by all. For Amandine Pierrot, “we want to renew this operation and make it sustainable over time. Today, rheumatology has taken over respiratory care, whereas originally the thermal baths of Cauterets specialized in respiratory care”.

Unknown to everyone, the functioning of the respiratory system impacts each of us, especially in the post-covid period. This local initiative reveals the dynamism of the thermal establishments of the department which are constantly adapting to highlight the thermal benefits.
