A blood drive is scheduled for Monday at the Château de Bonrepos-Riquet as part of World Blood Donor Day. The French Blood Establishment (EFS) continues to sound the alarm, as the lack of donations runs the risk of a shortage. While it is estimated that 10,000 blood bags are needed daily at the national level, including 1,000 for Occitania alone, giving blood is a generous action that only 4% of the population performs each year. Moreover, no synthetic drug is currently capable of replacing human blood. “Emergency relief, surgeries, blood diseases, cancers… Everyone can need it. A single donation saves three lives!”, insists the EFS. Collections are supervised by EFS doctors, who receive the volunteers individually before the collection. At the end of the session, a gourmet snack is served to each person sampled. A snack which, on the facilities of the historic castle of Pierre-Paul Riquet, will be prepared by local artisans. Donating blood requires being between 18 and 70 years old, in good health and weighing more than 50 kg.
