Set up last summer at the Villeneuvois Health Center, the Medical Center on duty aims to relieve emergencies. Villeneuvois doctors have made a feedback.

“The summer period promises to be dry, but also in lack of doctors. But we will try to reassure ourselves ”launched at the opening of the medical evening of the Villeneuvois health center its director Bruno Chauvin. Among the themes discussed during this bi-annual evening – where doctors from Villeneuve come to talk about their specialty and their experiences – the speakers returned to the establishment of the PSV Medical Center on duty. It was July 8, 2022.

“It all started with the Marmande situation,” recalls Arnaud Elvis Mango, emergency doctor and president of the Villeneuve Establishment Medical Commission (CME). The Marmandaises emergencies find themselves on the verge of closure and the approach of the summer period does not help matters. The emergency situation in Villeneuve-sur-Lot, which covers a vast area of life, is equivalent, “Before the establishment of the Medical Center, we were at 93 visits per day, with an average waiting time of 3 h 29 “continues the emergency doctor.

He and his team then set up the MMG as close as possible to the entrance to the emergency room for better localization. The place will be occupied by general practitioners from the Lot valley to relieve the neighboring service. Objective: that they take care of pathologies that are not urgent. “After the opening, we saw a laudable change, but the reality remains difficult” says Dr Mango. The number of passages decreases a tad, but above all the referrals to the Medical House increase.

“Put the patient in the right place and in front of the right doctor”

The system, which therefore involves general practitioners within the PSV on weekends, makes it possible to strengthen this “hospital-city” cooperation and, ultimately, to improve working conditions. Dr. Cécile Brisez, a doctor in Cancon, had the opportunity to ensure guards at the Villeneuvoise Medical Center. Even “if there are as many opinions as doctors” on the subject, she highlights several points of satisfaction. For the patient first, who “sees a white coat” and is satisfied with his treatment. “These are people who want to be in the hospital! ” supports the doctor from Cannes. But the most important thing in his eyes is the creation of this place which allows “to create a team spirit and mutual aid between city doctors and emergency doctors”. The rhythm too – a call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. every other day of the weekend – makes it possible to reconcile everything. But all is not rosy either, the first days of MMG saw a very large flow of patients.

Dr. Michel Durenque, former president of the medical order of Lot-et-Garonne, was also present to bring his point of view, he who was at the initiative of such a structure in Agen in 2008. Among the advantages , “give visibility to the population and also security for the doctor with the proximity of emergencies if there is a need for reorientation”. Upstream, Dr. Mango insists on the message already broadcast last summer: “Before going to the emergency room, I call 15”. To spend the summer without too much trouble, referral is essential. “The idea is to put the patient in the right place and face the right doctor” supports the Villeneuvois emergency doctor. With this methodology and the maintenance of this Medical Center on duty, care will only be better.
