At the Saut de Sabo middle school, on the initiative of a 6th grade student, breakfast was shared with all the other middle school students.
“I prefer to eat in the canteen!” With friends and girlfriends”, perhaps this refrain from a popular song from the 80s by Carlos, is not on the playlist of today’s college students.
But it is in any case an affirmation to which they subscribe in unison. At the Saut de Sabo middle school, it was Valentine, a sixth-grade student, who suggested sharing breakfast with all the other students as part of an educational project. This project, discussed with his comrades from the college life council, was retained by the teaching team.
In the first place by the principal education advisor (CPE) Roselyne Benigno and Eva, education assistant. The headteacher, Mr. Giovannini, encouraged the initiative. The importance of breakfast is not to be demonstrated for students who have to face a morning of lessons. The college nurse did not fail to highlight its virtues.
An experience to repeat!
For funding, an effort from the college on its own budget, from the socio-educational center, and a grant from the academic committee for high school life provided for it. Families, students, teachers have been fully informed.
And, beyond the undeniable health benefit, these breakfasts took on the color of the two main languages taught at the college: English and Spanish, in addition to the traditional French breakfast.
But if churros, eggs and bacon and pastries are unanimous, the students were not fans of the English jam peas. The operation began on Wednesday, May 17, and each level of class was entitled to its own breakfast. And each devoured what he generously chose. However, half of them admitted to having nothing for breakfast at home. The excuses are various.
“When I get up, I’m not hungry”, says one, “I don’t have time”, says another. At the end of this magnificent initiative, there remains the question of whether it can be renewed over the year. The question is obviously budgetary. As for the response of the children, the fifth graders that day, it is unanimous. We can hear “it’s nice to find the girlfriends (friends), it’s really good! I am happy to be with friends who are not in my class! “.
It’s a plebiscite for renewal! Let’s not forget to salute Vincent Condis, the chef, and the eleven service people who graciously agree to work overtime for this great initiative.
