On Wednesday afternoon, the Association for the Rehabilitation and Defense of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in Aveyron was invited by the Alerts for a preventive intervention on hearing loss. The ARDDS 12 was created 7 years ago and since then has been crisscrossing the department to organize meetings, give technical advice and organize courses and lingual reading workshops with a speech therapist. Because, unlike the deaf from birth, those who have become deaf are not “signers”; they therefore need another mode of integration in a noisy environment. The speaker, Jean-Luc Ginestet-Couronne, president of the association himself who became deaf at the age of 50, recalled that 10% of the population, or 6 million people, are affected by this problem of presbycusis which isolates. Hence the interest in acting quickly and consulting an ENT so as not to lose communication “the less you are deaf for a long time, the better the result of the device and the gain in freedom”. 5 volunteers from the association were present , representing all types of deafness and were able to testify and answer the many questions of the participants. The choice of equipment and its cost being the most mentioned. At the end of the conference, Michel Delmas (secretary) offered to test “hora”, an awareness tool that allows you to test your perception of speech in noise.
All the participants said they were very interested in the comments of the speakers and enlightened for their future choices, even if, according to the surveys carried out, men tend, at 60%, to deny their hearing loss!
