Illini Bluffs knock off Lady Rebels, 71-33, Kewanee edges team too

schoolLast Wednesday night the Lady Rebels showed off their new jerseys to fans, but even with their slick new uniforms, Stark County couldn’t stop Illini Bluffs.
The Lady Rebels found themselves in a rut that they never did get out of. After the first quarter, Stark County was down 6-18 and then at the half the margin had increased to 13-33.
The Tigers of Illini Bluffs continued making shots easily and finished on top, 33-71 over the Lady Rebels.

Lady Rebels pick up two wins; start conference play

schoolThe Lady Rebels defeated West Prairie in the second home game of the year and first conference game, 57-42.
Stark County worked up a 10 point lead before the Cyclones rallied back to make it 14-9 after the first quarter.
Three straight three point shots then gave West Prairie the lead to start the second quarter, 14-18.
The Lady Rebels then got an old fashioned three point play off a bizarre shot from Ashley Phillips that somehow found the basket while she was being fouled. Adding to that in the final minutes, was Madisyn Paxson with back-to-back buckets to give Stark County the 26-23 advantage at the half.

Morrison too much for Rebels in semifinal game

schoolThe Stark County Rebels’ season may be over after a 28-0 loss to Morrison, but finishing in the top four in the state is no small accomplishment. Especially in 2A.
Morrison was a formidable opponent from the start in the semifinal matchup last Saturday.
“We couldn’t get a lot going for us today,” said head coach Jade Noard after talking to his understandably emotional team. “They really owned the line of scrimmage all day long.”
The Rebels started with the ball, but a holding penalty quickly put them in a 3rd and 15 situation and resulting in a three and out punt, only to about mid-field where Morrison took over with great field position.

One touchdown is all it takes to go to semifinals

IMG_9756The Rebels have figured out one thing for sure this season – if they keep working hard, good things will happen.

Saturday’s game was a rematch of sorts. The Rebels had lost previously to Mercer County in the regular season, 0-21.

And despite again being an underdog and getting little respect, Stark County pulled off a huge quarterfinal victory over Mercer County, 7-0.

Rebels in the quarterfinals, defeat Dee-Mack 29-28

IMG_9631Stark County needed another big performance this week to get past the #1 seed Deer-Creek Mackinaw Chiefs, and they got it.

The Rebels put together a come from behind drive late in the fourth quarter for a one point 29-28 victory over Dee-Mack, advancing them to the quarterfinals in the 2A playoffs.

Stark County started the game with the ball, but was unable to move down the field before a short punt to the Dee-Mack 41 yard line.
